AGE UK Isle of Wight
Age Concern Isle of Wight, now trading as Age UK Isle of Wight, has been the beneficiary of the Wolverton Manor Garden Fair for the last 6 years. It is the largest fundraising event for the charity, so far raising £115,000. These funds have made a huge impact, initially supporting the research and development of Just About You, a low cost ‘help at home’ service, developing a pilot gardening service.

The charity was established in 1973 and although the name suggests that the organisation is part of a larger, national charity, in fact Age UK Isle of Wight is local and independent. All the funds raised on the Island stay here to help maintain a wide range of services which now support and enhance the lives of over 4,500 older people, their families and carers every year.
Demand for our services is growing. Currently, 17% (over 22,000) of our Island population is over 70 years old, and it is predicted that over the next 10 years, the 65+ age group will grow from 25% of our population to 28%.
Whilst many older people remain fit and active, for some life is much harder often feeling lonely and isolated, struggling on a low income; perhaps suffering from ill-health.
Our services are there for older people when they feel they are reaching crisis point although it is much better if we can help early enough to prevent this happening. We aim to improve quality of life and support older people to remain independent in their own home for as long as they choose.
Briefly our services include:
- Information and Advice, including welfare benefits advice and advocacy
- Good Neighbour Scheme, including specialist support for those with dementia
- Handyperson Service, including energy efficiency audits
- Active Networks social clubs
- Just About You, providing practical help at home
- Nail Cutting Service
- Café Clinics
- Gardening; piloting a gardening service
